Become the 23rd Lord and Lady of Funtley
1st Lord – Turi was the pre-Conquest Lord, who owed service to Godwin, Earl of Essex.
2nd Lord – Ranulf Flamme or Flambard, who was one of the key figures in the compiling of the Domesday Book. He was also Keeper of the King’s Seal. Ranulf was a key figure in King William II Rufus’ government and given custody of vacant ecclesiastical offices. At the peak he had sixteen offices under his control with the vast wealth they generated. He is regarded as the first Chief Justiciar of England. he is appointed Bishop of Durham. After King William’s death he is imprisoned in the Tower of London and used as a scapegoat for the financial extortions of King William. He was the first prisoner to escape the Tower of London.
4th Lord – Hugh de Hoyvill complained to King Henry III about the level of debt he had inherited and when this fell on death ears he joined the Simon de Montford rebellion.
8th Lord – Sir John Uvedale was a Justice of the Peace and was elected a Knight of the shire and Member of Parliament for Hampshire. He is appointed High Sheriff of Hampshire. Sir John contributes $30 towards the war effort in France in 1436.
9th Lord – Sir Thomas Uvedale was appointed High Sheriff of Hampshire, then High Sheriff of Surrey and Sussex.
14th Lord – William Uvedale was appointed Lord Mayor of London, a Justice of the Peace and High Sheriff of Hampshire. He was elected a Knight of the Shire and Member of Parliament for Hampshire. William is appointed to a piracy commission.
17th Lord – Sir William Uvedale served as a Justice of the Peace and Constable of Porchester castle having purchased it from King Charles in 1632. Sir William served as Treasurer at War and elected Member of Parliament for Petersfield. Parliament garrisoned Dragoons in Porchester Castle.
Joint 18th Lord – Sir Richard Corbett served four terms as a Member of Parliament for Shrewsbury. Edward Morpeth, Viscount Morpeth became Earl of Carlisle.
