Become the 24th Lord and Lady of Raddingdean

1st Lords – Were three freeholders owing service to King Edward the Confessor.

2nd Lord – Wiard (possibly son of Osbern, son of Geoffrey de Balliol.  He owed service to William de Warenne, Earl of Surrey.

7th Lord – Roger Dalyngrigge is appointed High Sheriff of Surrey and Sussex.

8th Lord – Sir Edward Dalyngrigge, who had accumulated a great wealth as a mercenary.  Sir Edward is elected a Knight of the Shire and Member of Parliament for Sussex.  In 1385 Sir Edward receives a grant from King Richard to crenellate Raddingdean manor house (convert to a castle) and divert a stream to create a moat.  He is appointed Captain of Brest (France).  Sir Edward is appointed to survey Calais and Picardy Castle.  King Richard appoints Sir Edward as Warden of London.

9th Lord – John Dalyngrigge serves in King Henry’s household.  He is appointed High Sheriff of Gloucestershire.  Sir John serves as a Knight of the Shire and Member of Parliament for Sussex. He is made Keeper of Braden and St Leonard’s Forests and appointed Constable of Bramber Castle.

10th Lord – Sir John Vaughan, lord by the right of his wife Anne, serves as a Member of Parliament on 11 occasions.  He is appointed High Sheriff of Yorkshire.

23rd Lord – Charles Western is elected a Member of Parliament for Maldon.
