History to: 1541 - the reign of Henry VIII
(1) Owned by Alvar the Saxon until the Conquest when the Lordship was seen as being of significant importance stayed as a Crown Lordship. (2) At the Dissolution Drax Priory is said to have been holding no lands in Hilton and it is assumed that they had a Mesne Lordship and did not hold the Manor. (3) Held by two knights during its history, Sir Thomas Percy and Sir James Strangways.
