Previous Lords:
The second portion of BURGHFIELD was held in the reign of Edward the Confessor by two alodiaries who did service, the one to the queen and the other to Bundi. At the time of the Domesday Survey the overlordship of this holding in Burghfield had passed to Henry de Ferrers, with the same men holding under him, but the hundred court did not know by what warrant they held it. In the second half of the 12th century, probably in the reign of Henry II, Earl William Ferrers confirmed a charter in which one of his tenants granted land in Burghfield, but this is the last occasion in which the overlordship is mentioned.
