In the time of Edward the Confessor HAMPSTEAD NORRIS was held of the king by Lanc, who was succeeded after the Conquest by Theodoric the goldsmith. The overlordship remained with the Crown, and in 1270 the king confirmed to the leprous women of Bradley and the brethren there a virgate of land here, the gift of Alonoth de Sifrewast.
