1st Lord – John Winchcombe, Member of Parliament, was also known as “Jack of Newbury”
8th Lord – Edward, 2nd Marquess of Worcester was a Royalist and was banished to live in Paris, France. Edward returned to England, is discovered, charged with high treason and sent to the Tower of London. He was released on bail by the Council of State. Edward was an inventor and writes a book of inventions from 1655-63, one being a “water commanding engine” which will become the steam engine.
10th Lord – Sir Samuel Mico, a Freeman of the City of London, who was regarded as one of the wealthiest inhabitants of London. It was rumoured that Sir Samuel was awarded his knighthood for lending King Charles II £100,000.
