William Bessels of Bessels Leigh (q.v.) on his death in 1515, held the manor or capital messuage of TYNTEYNS (Tyntons, xvii cent.) of Thomas Denton. It passed with Bessels Leigh to the Fettiplaces, who acquired Appleton in 1564, and it then descended with Appleton (q.v.) until sold by Mr. Cooke, in the latter part of the 18th century, to Mr. Sansum; he, in 1833, sold part of the estate with the house to Richard Richards, whose cousin, Mr. Joseph Cowderoy Richards, is the present owner. Sansum alienated other portions to the Southbys.
