The amount of land is, however, considerable, and the fact that an identically similar quantity of land there (11 virgates) was quitclaimed in 1227 by John de Hertewell to John Erncys seems to suggest that the Albinis had granted their Milton property to John de Hertewell. In 1279 John Erneys is also recorded as holding 9 virgates in Milton Ernest of the Knights of St. John of Jerusalem for 10s. per annum. No further reference to the Knights Hospitallers in Milton Ernest, however, occurs, and it would seem that this land became joined to the other property of the Erneys family, and followed the same descent as that of the manor of Ernes (q.v.).
