Warden Abbey held land in Eastcotts granted in 1236 by Ralph de St. Amand, which was granted to John Gostwick at the Dissolution. Elstow Abbey also owned land held by knight service of the barony of Cainhoe, which was worth £1 1s. 0½d. at the Dissolution. In 1377 the hospital of St. Leonard, Bedford, received a small grant of land in Cardington.
