The grange of LYMBOTSEY or LIMERSEY, with its rich pasture lands, was in the possession of the Abbot of Warden by the end of the 12th century, and probably by grant from the Albini family. The abbot claimed rights of free warren over this land in 1330. The value of this property in 1291 was £4 6s. 4d., and at the time of the dissolution of the monasteries it was valued at £5 6s. 8d. Elizabeth made a temporary grant of it to Richard Pickman, while Charles I made it over to James Beverley, lord of the manor of Clophill and Cainhoe. Though no further mention of it has been found, its further history is probably the same as that of this manor (q.v.). The grange was evidently on the eastern border of the parish with its pastures extending into the adjoining parish of Maulden, as 'Limersey' is still a place-name in that part of the parish.
