In the reign of Edward the Confessor Bundi had held ASHDEN (Assedone, Asschedon, xi cent.; Esseden, xiii cent.), afterwards WEST COMPTON, but at the date of the Domesday Survey it formed part of the estates of Henry de Ferrers, who held it as parcel of the honour of Tutbury, with Ralph de Bakepuz as sub-tenant. The overlordship passed with the honour of Tutbury to Edmund Crouchback Earl of Lancaster, whose successors continued to hold it until the 15th century, when it became merged in the Crown at the accession of Henry IV.
