At Hyde End, in the south-west of the parish, was an estate called HYDE, occasionally termed a manor. The family of Hyde, who possessed it from at least the 16th to the 18th century, had a vault in the old church. One of the later stones inscribed to their memory records the death of John Hyde in 1715 and of his widow Mary four years later.
