Previous Lords:
In the time of Edward the Confessor YATTENDON was held by Baldwin of the king in alod, and at the time of the Domesday Survey it was held by William son of Ansculf. The overlordship descended, like that of the manor of Stanford Dingley (q.v.), to the Paynels, de Somerys and de la Beches. At the death of Edmund de la Beche in 1364 the overlordship passed under the same settlement to Thomas Langford, who seems to have been a son of Edmund's sister. It appears to have remained in the Langford family until 1441–2, when Edward Langford remitted all his right in the manor to John Norreys, who had purchased the fee. The overlordship and the fee were thenceforth merged.
