One virgate of land in East Hendred was held in 1274 by Ralph son of Thomas de Hendred by the service of a daily Pater Noster for the souls of the Kings of England. He was succeeded by his son John, who died about 1302, leaving a brother and heir Richard. This Richard or his heir of the same name had licence in 1360 to settle the land on himself with remainder to Robert Cole. Alice daughter of Robert Cole granted it in 1400 to John Hychecokkes. There is no evidence as to its subsequent history. The piece of land, the name of which survived in a road called Paternoster Bank, was still to be identified in the early 18th century.
