BETTERTON (Bedretone, xi cent.; Westbaterton, xiii cent., generally West Betterton) was held in the reign of Edward the Confessor by Leuric the monk and belonged at the time of the Domesday Survey to Miles Crispin, who had here a mill worth 5s. It passed with the rest of his estate on his death to his wife, the lady of Wallingford (q.v.), and in the 13th century is described as a fee of the honour of Wallingford.
