In Appleton, as in Abington, Northamptonshire, a tenancy was held under the Visdelous by the family of Rycote of Rycote co. Oxon., the tenancy in demesne being in the hands of William de Merton in 1240–1. In 1428 John de Werynge was the tenant of this fee; its further descent has not been traced.
