7th Lord – Thomas Tempest was a recusant (someone who refused to attend services of the Church of England).
9th Lord – Sir Henry Pickering, who was knighted by Oliver Cromwell, was created a baronet (hereditary knighthood). Sir Henry served as a Knight of the Shire and Member of Parliament for Cambridgeshire. He alos hedl the rank of colonel in the New Model Army.
