1st Lord – John  de Lobrid

12th Lord – John Evelyn, a Justice of the Peace.  John’s grandfather made the family fortune by obtaining a monopoly for the making of gunpowder under the Tudors.  John gets into a dispute with Parliament over the gunpowder contract.  He is elected a Member of Parliament for Bletchingley, then knighted.  Sir John  is a reluctant support of Parliament in the Civil War.

13th Lord – Sir John Evelyn is appointed High Sheriff of Surrey.
