The second of the two moieties of Ashampstead followed the same descent as that of Basildon (q.v.) until 1650, when the latter was sold by Edward Stafford. He retained the 'manor' of Ashampstead, which passed with the manor of Bradfield (q.v.) from the Staffords to the Thomsons, being mentioned for the last time in 1716.
