Previous Lords:
In the reign of Edward the Confessor Godric the king's sheriff held a hide of land in East Hendred. This in 1086 was in the hands of Henry de Ferrers, though the wife of Godric claimed that King William had given it to her for supporting his hounds. Only Alvric de Thatcham, however, supported her claim in the hundred court, and Henry de Ferrers remained in possession. This holding, which developed into the manor of ARCHES, formed part of his honour of Tutbury, which the overlordship followed in descent.
