The manor of EAST ENBORNE was held of King Edward the Confessor in alod by Toti and by William Lovet at the time of the Domesday Survey. In the 13th century the overlordship of this manor was in the hands of William de Forz Earl of Albemarle, and passed by the surrender of the Countess Isabel in 1293 to the king, who seems to have granted it with the honour of Skipton in Craven to Robert Lord Clifford, the descent of whose barony it followed until 1471, when the last mention of it occurs.
