The manor of THROCKMORTONS or BOXES in this parish originated in a grant by the Crown of a portion of Sir George Throckmorton's property to William Boxe, citizen and grocer of London, and Anne his wife in 1546. By 1553–4 it had become the property of Lord Mordaunt, and it henceforth followed the descent of Roxton Manor (q.v.).
