In 1086 a manor of WOKEFIELD assessed at 1½ hides, which was held of King Edward the Confessor by Wicstric, belonged to Walter the son of Other, whose descendants the Windsors kept the overlordship as parcel of their manor of Stanwell until 1542, when it was given by Andrew Lord Windsor to King Henry VIII in exchange for monastic lands.
