1st Baron – Henry I grants Roger I de Mandeville the Barony of Erlestoke.

5th Baron – Matthew fitz Herbert is baron by the right of his wife Joan de Mandeville.  Matthew is appointed High Sheriff of Sussex.  He is also a justice itinerant (roving judge) in Wiltshire and other counties.  King Henry gives Matthew 10 oaks from Chippingham forest to assist with the re-build of Erlestoke manor house.  Matthew is a witness to Magna Carta.

6th Baron – Herbert fitz Matthew is sent to repress the Welsh.  He is killed by a boulder cast down from a mountain height by the Welsh rebels.

10th Baron – King Edward grants Erlestoke to Sir Ralph de Monthermer who is also Earl of Gloucester and Hertfordshire.  Sir Ralph serves as Warden and Lieutenant for the King if Scotland.  He is taken prisoner at the Battle of Bannockburn but due to his friendship with Robert the Bruce is released without ransom.  He is appointed Warden of the Royal forests south of the Trent.

11th Baron – The Barony of Erlestoke passes to Sir Ralph’s second son, Edward with the reversion (after Edward’s death) to his eldest son Thomas.  Edward enters into a conspiracy with the earl of Kent and is imprisoned in Winchester Castle.  His lands are confiscated but later returned.  Sir Edward is mortally wounded at the Battle of Vironfosse against the French.

12th Baron – When Sir Edward dies Erlestoke passes to his brother Thomas.  Thomas dies of his wounds in the naval Battle of Sluys.

13th Baron – Sir John Montacute (by the right of his wife Margaret, daughter of Thomas) participates in the siege of Calais.  He is summoned to Parliament as the 1st Baron Montacute.

14th Baron – John Montacute inherits the title Earl of Salisbury.  He is also made a Knight of the Garter.  Sir John was a firm supporter of King Richard and when Henry IV takes the throne he is arrested and sent to the Tower of London.  after he is released he joins with other barons in the Epiphany Rising and is captured in Cirencester and beheaded without trial.

15th Baron – Sir Thomas Montacute is appointed Governor or Champagne and captures the city of Le Mans.

16th Baron – Richard Neville accompanies King Henry to his French coronation.  On his return he is appointed Warden of the East March to Scotland.  Richard fights at the 1st Battle of St Albans.  After the Battle of Wakefield Richard escapes the battle field only to be captured that night and is dragged from Pontefract Castle and beheaded by the local population.

18th Baron – Another Richard, who has an annual income of over £7,000, more than any other man of the realm except for the king.  He holds the offices of Captain of Calais, High Admiral of England and Steward of the Duchy of Lancaster.
